December 25 - Merry Christmas! Up early, 5:45 local time, (like that means anything to my body clock!), and on the Irkutsk to Vladivostok train for the 7:56 AM departure. Just a bit of fuss getting the bunk assignments worked out, (as a lady had camped on my assigned bunk), but giving up to her gained me big points with our train car attendant. She was off the train in the middle of the night, (note: time has a way of getting distorted when you travel by train, and cross so many time zones, you just don't bother to set you watch any more), and I was able to get my rightfully assigned lower bunk. We had a nice Christmas Dinner of packaged noodles, (damn good - thanks again Ming Ming), sausage and fresh bread. Not exactly the turkey dinner with all the trimmings, but shared with a friend made it nice. Christmas is not celebrated in Russia until January, so it was really just a symbolic gesture for Eric and I anyway. Will - from Vladivostok Earthquake Eric and I experienced nothing when the devastating earthquake shook Asia earlier this week. We were oblivious to it until we saw the English news in our hotel in Vladivostok days later. Our deepest sympathies to those who suffered and lost in this reminder that we are mortal participants in this cosmic journey. Will - from Vladivostok
